When James isn’t busy educating people on the difference between RFP and RFI, he can quite easily be found at an airport, in the kitchen cooking up a culinary feast, or at some form of sporting event with his sporting-mad family.
Richard Patterson was one of the founders of Merlin Information Systems Ltd., a company that he led
successfully since its inception in 1991 until 2016 when Merlin was acquired. As a highly-experienced
entrepreneur, he has extensive knowledge and expertise in M&A processes, having both sold his own company
and purchased others.
Richard’s success story began with the founding of Merlin Information Systems Ltd., which he turned into a
successful BPO (business process outsourcing) provider by leveraging his extensive background in IT and
technology. Over time, the company steadily grew and was eventually acquired by Transcosmos, a $3 billion
BPO company. The acquisition was a major milestone for Richard and his board of directors, rewarding them for
their hard work with recognition as one of the leaders in their industry.
Now, Richard has dedicated himself to helping other companies navigate their way through M&A processes by
sharing his personal experience selling his own firm and buying others. He firmly believes that there is no better
way to learn than from the experience of someone who had been there before. By providing strategic advice on
topics such as how to define goals before beginning negotiations, how to source potential buyers or investors,
and how to close deals quickly yet fairly, Richard hopes to help entrepreneurs make informed decisions when
considering any M&A process.
